A brief history of Henry Franklin Freeman

Henry Franklin Freeman was born May 13, 1841 in Bedford County, Tennessee to Hellen (Killingsworth) and John Wilson Freeman. Henry would go by his middle name "Frank."

John and Hellen Freeman had two children younger than Frank: Celia (daughter born in 1842) and Taylor (son born in 1848).

John Freeman died about 1848, leaving Hellen to raise their children alone. In the 1850 census, Frank and his mother and siblings were living with their maternal Grandfather, Henry Killingsworth in Bedford County, Tennessee. By the 1860 census, Frank was on his in Bedford County, working as a laborer.

On May 30, 1861, Frank was married to Harriett Williams in Bedford County, Tennessee. Harriett was born July 17, 1847 in Bedford County to Nancy (Byrams) and John Williams.

Frank and Harriett raised a large family. Mary Elizabeth, Robert Wilson, Joseph Henry, Beulah, Martha Ann, Alice, Sara Jane were all born in Bedford County, Tennessee. Then they took a brief sojourn into Missouri, where their daughter Nancy Ellen was born in 1879; however, they had already returned to Bedford County by the time the 1880 census rolled around the next year. Two more Freeman girls were born in Bedford County: Birdie Lee and Georgia Etta.

In 1900, Frank and Harriett were still living in Civil District 20 of Bedford County, Tennessee. Their children Joseph Henry, Sarah Jane, Nancy Ellen, Birdie Lee and Georgia Etta were still living at home. Their eldest daughter Elizabeth (Adcock) and family, their daughter Beulah (Bird) and family, their son Robert and his wife Emma (Creek) were all living closeby in District 20. However, not far away, but living in District 11 of Bedford County was daughter Martha (Puckett) and her family, while daughter Alice (Chambliss) and her family were in District 3 of Bedford County.

Henry Franklin Freeman passed away on January 16, 1908. It appears that Harriett went to live with her son Joseph and wife Emma in Lincoln, Christian, Missouri in 1910. However, it is reported that Harriett passed away on May 31, 1916 in Bedford County, Tennessee. [Researcher note: I have been unable to verify either Henry Franklin's or Harriett's deaths and do not know where they were buried. The problem with the 1910 census, is that Harriett's parents are listed as having been born in Louisiana; however, they were actually born in North Carolina, so that census is in some dispute.]
