Elle's Muse
I've been thinking a lot lately about how the world is not fair. No matter how
much one wants it to be fair, it never is. Just look around. When you were little,
didn't your Mom tell you..."you better
not keep that face on or else it will freeze that way!" Do you see anyone with their face
frozen in a grotesque pout? No. If you do see someone's face frozen it is from some horrible
accident or disease, but nothing to do with their temperament or behavior.
My brother David has a favorite saying, "No good deed shall go unpunished." In the last few years, this has felt very true to me. When I look around at those who are doing the nicest things, I see them getting the hardest hits. Take a look at some of the meanest, most narcisstic individuals, and you'll find that life seems like it's treating them pretty good.
In many ways I have been truly fortunate. I have the love of my life...my Gene...and the love of my sweet son Jim and his lovely Canadian wife, Shannon (plus some pretty terrific brothers, a sister and my Mom -- not to mention some very special friends). In other ways, though, life has been difficult. And I see some dear friends in pain. And, I don't see any of them deserving it. They just endure.

Endurance...what is it? It is taking one step at a time...each day...sometimes each minute....continuing to put one foot in front of the other....to get through the pain of today...to get on to enjoy those moments when life is bliss and to those moments when you can share the good with someone you love.
