Today, September 11, 2001,
war has been declared on
the United States of America.

At 8:48 a.m. EST American Airlines Flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles crashes into the New York World Trade Center's north tower.

Minutes later, at 9:04 a.m. EST, United Airlines Flight 175 from Boston to Los Angeles, smashes into the south tower.

This is followed by a Boeing 757 plunging into the Pentagon. The 4th hijacked jet, United Airlines Flight 93 from Newark to San Francisco plunges into the ground in Somerset, Pennsylvania (southeast of Pittsburgh).

Further reports of a car bomb at the Capitol and smoke pouring out of the White House leave it unclear how wide spread the attack on the United States is.

How many are dead? Thousands among thousands? How many are injured? Into the thousands? As New York City Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says, when the death count is finally tallied, it will be "more than any of us can bear".

The question is, Who?

The most likely perpetrator of this crime is the international criminal known as Osama bin Laden. Fox News reported that an editor of a London-based Arab newspaper said bin Laden warned three weeks ago that he would attack American interests and promised "a very big one."

Osama bin Laden in a nutshell

42 year old Osama bin Laden is the 12th child of Mohammad bin Aaud Laden, the largest construction builder in Saudi Arabia. The bin Laden family are close to the royal family and through their association with them, their empire has risen to be worth billions.   Bin Laden himself is a billionaire.

Bin Laden's relationship with the United States appears to have started with the CIA helping arm and train the "anti-Soviet Mujahedeen" led by bin Laden in their fight for Afghanistan against Russia. When Russia finally left Afghanistan in 1989, bin Laden and his army were no longer welcome back in their home of Saudi Arabia. It was feared that bin Laden and his army would create instability in Saudi Arabia and threaten the royal rule.

Bin Laden's anger at the United States appears to have been aroused when Saudi Arabia invited the United States' military into Saudi Arabia during the seige of Kuwait by the Iraqi's. Bin Laden viewed this as western occupation of his homeland and western corruption of Islamic holy lands. From this point, bin Laden's military goal was to evict the United States from Islamic countries. This anger was most likely exacerbated when in response to bin Laden's military stance against the United States, Saudi Arabia stripped his Saudi citizenship.

In March 1998, Bin Laden issued a "fatwa" where he called for his followers to "kill and plunder American citizens." Presently, bin Laden is the leader of Arab and Islamic militants known as "al Qaeda." He has since been credited with multiple attacks against the United States, including two U.S. embassies in Africa, the bombing of the World Trade Towers, and the bombing of the USS Cole.

The following quotes are taken from ABC reporter John Miller's interview with bin Laden in May 1998. They will give you a picture of the extremist and violent beliefs of Osama bin Laden:

[In talking about his fight against the United States, bin Laden related this story:] "There is a lesson to learn from this for he who wishes to learn," he said. "The Soviet Union entered Afghanistan in the last week of 1979, and with Allah's help their flag was folded a few years later and thrown in the trash, and there was nothing left to call the Soviet Union."

[John Miller stated that] during the two days I had waited at the camp for bin Laden, some of his fighters sat on the floor of our hut and told war stories. One soldier, with a big grin, told of slitting the throats of three American soldiers in Somalia. When I asked bin Laden about this, he said, "When this took place, I was in the Sudan, but this great defeat pleased me very much, the way it pleases all Muslims."

And...who is harboring this war criminal?   Afghanistan and their ruling Taliban government!   How should we deal with anyone supporting or harboring the individuals and group(s) which perpetrated war upon the United States citizens? As President George W. Bush stated:

We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.

A young soldier penned these words just days before he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17. Last night, just 5 1/2 days since America was attacked by terrorists, he was packing his gear... preparing to defend his country:

If another country is doing something that is putting us in harm's way, we are obligated to stop the harm either by mediation, or grounding (by which I mean taking something away, like trade; installing trade sanctions), police action, or combat -- depending on the minority or severity of the problem. Let's say it's a minor problem - we would begin the attempt of solving the problem by mediation; getting together with the problem-maker and sharing your thoughts and concerns and discuss how the problem might thus be resolved. Now let's say our attempts to mend the hole -- fix the problem - aren't going so well. Maybe they've failed altogether. Maybe the problem is a little more severe. Then we... diminish their trade or something of the like. If all else fails or the problem is severe enough, it is time to enforce the rights of human beings and inhabitants of this planet... because: "FREEDOM ISN'T FREE"

"Great tragedy has come to us, and we are meeting it with the best that is in our country, with courage and concern for others. Because this is America. This is who we are."
