World Support of
U.S. Action Against Terrorists

British Prime Minister Tony Blair October 2, 2001:
"There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror," Blair stated. "There is just a choice: Defeat it or be defeated by it and defeat it we must."

Canada Prime Minister Jean Chrétien
"On Sept. 11, 2001, Canada and the world looked on in shock and disbelief as the deadliest terrorist attack in history was carried out against thousands of defenceless victims in New York and Washington. "This was an act of premeditated murder on a massive scale with no possible justification or explanation — an attack not just on our closest friend and partner, the United States, but against the values and the way of life of all free and civilized people around the world." Zahir Shah, Deposed King of Afghanistan
The country's exiled former king who is perhaps the only figure who could unite the rebel armies and any remnants of the Taliban, issued a statement Sunday saying he accepted the U.S. and British attacks. "Unfortunately, the unpatriotic position of the Taliban and their sponsors has again inflicted pain, sorrow and destruction on the people of Afghanistan," the former king, Zahir Shah, said. Canada Prime Minister Jean Chrétien
"We are part of an unprecedented coalition of nations that has come together to fight the threat of terrorism. A coalition that will act on a broad front that includes military humanitarian, diplomatic, financial, legislative and domestic security initiatives. "I have made it clear from the very beginning that Canada would be part of this coalition every step of the way. (Toronto Globe & Mail)

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder
"The military actions, it must be made quite clear, are only a part of a very broad engagement to fight international terrorism - an engagement that we genuinely support, and indeed welcome, in its entirety...This is not a fight against the Afghan people, but against terrorism and against those who support it... It is not - and this should once more be made explicit at this moment - not a battle of the West against Islam...

We did not want this confrontation, either; it was forced upon us by international terrorism. Forced upon us in a dreadful way, which on September 11 caused the deaths of over 6000 Americans, but also Europeans, Chinese, and Arabs. And it is clear that we have to respond in unity, and that we will. Obviously, it will not be easy... There is no alternative to this confrontation, which we must win, and which we will win.
